Operation Overview

Here is some FRESH intel, on what “The Lettuce Farm” has planned.

You'll find details on our recent application to the City of St. John's

www.thelettucefarm.ca was a 100% artificially lit hydroponic farm, that produced 3000 heads of lettuce, per week, every week in a concrete basement @ 61 Hamilton Ave., in St John’s.

Snellen Holdings (1994) Co. Ltd. owned and operated The Lettuce Farm.

The company has a building permit from the City of St John’s, to convert 148 East White Hills Rd., St John’s, FROM a former white button mushroom farm (Bunker Hill Farm) TO a cannabis research facility.

The subterranean structure there was built by the American Military. It was a water tank for the Pleasantville base. The structure is comprised of two large chambers (20’x100’x15’ height). One of the chambers will be used for Cannabis LED lighting trials, the other chamber will house version 5 of the lettuce farm. CEA food production. The 18” thick concrete perimeter walls and 2’ thick concrete ceiling (which is under 5ft of soil and lawn) is an ideal heat sink for Controlled Environment Agriculture CEA.

The company has just submitted an application to the City of St John’s, for “Approval in Principle”, to amend our current building permit slightly to include the construction of a small “proof of concept greenhouse”, on top of the subterranean structure. The 24ft x 43ft greenhouse will be heated by a Hestia furnace. Hestia is a subsidiary of Labrador’s own Blocklab. www.hestiaheat.ca

The 80Kw Hestia furnace, planned for the site, is comprised of data miners that generate enough Bitcoin every ten days to cover the cost of operating the Furnace, which results in FREE heat for the growing operation. We are looking for a micro-brewery to add to the mix, as a source of CO2 for the plants.

The coalition of the willing also includes a Dutch company, UrbanPonics NL Bv. They specialize in a more holistic approach to creating healthier plants, which translates to food that is more nutritious. The Lettuce Farm will be moving away from Hydroponic production, and with the help of Urbanponics we will learn to embrace organic cultivation in Living soil all year long www.urbanponics.nl

Fingers crossed the City of Legends like our idea as much as we do. If we can prove the concept here, then we plan to deploy five similar greenhouses at Blocklab’s Husky facility in Labrador, to capture waste heat from that existing operation.

That's the Aug. 2025 Cole's Notes version of what's happening with The Lettuce Farm
